This year the International Jamboree on the Air is October 15th and 16th.
What is Jamboree on the Air you ask? –
“The JOTA is an annual event in which Scouts and Guides all over the world speak to each other by means of amateur radio contacts. Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared, via the radio waves.
When Scouts want to meet young people from another country they usually think of attending a World Jamboree or another international gathering. But few people realize that each year about half-a-million Scouts and Guides “get together” over the airwaves for the annual Jamboree-on-the–Air (JOTA). Modern communication technology offers Scouts the exciting opportunity to make friends in other countries without even leaving home…..”
Here in Great Falls the local Ham Radio club will be setting up for the weekend at Medicine River Scout Center. Boys and families are invited and encouraged to stop by and participate. You can stop in for 5 minutes of 5 hours. There will be multiple stations set up for learning, communicating, and fun!
Units may camp out at the Medicine River Scout Center if they wish, and Boy Scouts who participate for the entire weekend can earn their Radio Merit Badge.

At a minimum, all leaders should ensure that they are trained in:
- Youth Protection Training (you can’t be a leader unless this is done, at a minimum)
- This is Scouting
- Fast Start
- Leader Specific Training, and
- Hazardous Weather
