Scouts and Swimming!

Swimming, Scout and Summer.  The three just go together, kind of like peanut butter and jelly, rice and beans or peas and carrots.  So, let’s go swimming!

Troop 26 has reserved the Water Tower neighborhood pool for the evening of Monday, June 27 from 6-8pm.  As more kids = more fun, we would like to invite other Troops and Packs in town to join us (and, of course, help pay for our pool rental).

Please call Scoutmaster Aaron Weissman, 868-8982, for more information.

Flag Day

The Great Falls Realtors would like our Scouts to help raise the giant flag on Flag Hill for their Flag Day Ceremony tomorrow, June 14th. This has been a tradition for several years and the scouts have always had a part in this ceremony. They would like to have an Honor Guard raise the flag and have some help in cleaning up afterwards. This ceremony is open to all scouts so please spread the word and plan to participate! Please arrive in full uniform at 7:30am tomorrow. The ceremony will begin at 8:00am and is expected to last an hour. This is a great opportunity to pay respect to our flag on Flag Day and a great service project for our scouts! If you have any questions, please call me at 750-7657. Hope to see you there!

Every Scout Deserves a Trained Leader

Trained-Leader.gifHello Lewis and Clark District!

I have just taken on the role of Training chair for our district.  I would like you to join me on a journey that we will take together over the next year.  If you join me on this journey, I think that the end result will be a corps of adult and youth leaders in our District that will have the tools at their disposal to present the Scouts in our units with the very highest quality of program.

I have a few goals for our journey:

  • Maintain 100% Youth Protection Training for all adult leaders in the Lewis and Clark District.  Every adult must complete Youth Protection every year.  To that end, the Program for our October District Roundtable will be a proctored Youth Protection class.  Mark your calendars now for October 4 at the LDS Stake Center at 999 15th Ave S for 6pm, and ask every adult in your unit to attend.
  • Ensure that at least 60% of our Direct Contact adult leaders (Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, Den Leaders, Crew Advisors and Associate Advisors, etc.) have completed all of the trainings for their position.  Please get in touch with me about the trainings that your unit needs in order to ensure that your Scouts are benefiting from a Trained Leader!  Also, mark your calendars for BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) and IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills), which will be held the weekend of October 21-23 behind the Scout office.  Watch this blog for information on additional trainings as we schedule them!
  • By Fall 2017, ensure that every unit has at least one leader that has completed advanced Wood Badge training!  If no adult in your unit has completed Wood Badge, mark your calendars and sign up one of your adults today for our 2017 Wood Badge Course, which will are tentatively scheduled to be held at nearby K-M Scout Ranch the weekends of May 11-13, 2017 and June 1-3, 2017.
  • By Fall 2017, ensure that every Troop and Crew in our District has at lease one Scout that has completed National Youth Leadership Training (NYTrainedPatch.gifLT).  You may be able to still sign up for the NYLT course at K-M this coming June 19-25, 2016.  You can also sign up today for the 2017 NYLT course at K-M , which will be held June 18-24, 2017.

Why join me on this journey?  After all, the going may be hard.  However, I know that all of the Scout leaders in our District are up to it.  The end result will be delivering a better Scouting experience to the youth in our care, and a better program for every Scout.  So c’mon!  We are going to leave for that journey right away!  Get out your hiking shoes and join me!
